I love high heeled shoes-absolutely love them! But, they do not love me anymore… well, yes they do take off a few pounds and my legs do look a mile long, but my back and my toes scream at me before I even get them on my feet. It’s like my toes know that torture is coming and they start going into spasms before I even put that beauty on my foot. UGH! To be young and high heel shoe oriented once again…
I used to live in heels all the time, and I mean live in them. I literally didn’t realize that I was 5′6 until my dad measured me at age 29 and told me the honest truth. “You are no more 5′8 than the man in the moon”, he told me. I tried to honestly debate the subject by pulling out my driver’s license and showing him that YES I was in fact 5′8 and I had a license to prove it! Nope, right there in the kitchen my dad cut 2 inches off my life. 2 inches! Can you imagine? In my head, I went from a model to just a cute girl in less than 10 seconds. Darn it! Oh, well at least I still had my tall swanky shoes to help me out.
So, for 10 more years I traveled the planet in gorgeous high heeled shoes and I remained well over 5′8! However, as I approach 40 I hate the darn things. I don’t hate the way they look-Geez, I LOVE them! But I can’t stand what happens to my hips, back and feet when I am done being beautiful for the night. Do I sound like a promoter of the Easy Spirit shoe now or what?

Easy Spirit Heeled Boot
Pros:
- I can dance like a graceful movie star in high heels.
- I used to boast about how I could run in high heels (and I could).
- I have long, long, mile long legs in high heels.
- I look thinner in high heels.
Cons:
- There is no comparison to dancing in nice shoes… none-flip flops + dancing= Elaine from Seinfeld dancing and you know how I feel about that!
- I run better in Nike today.
- No matter how long my legs are there is still the hereditary cellulite that is coming to the surface of the back of my legs-no help for that!
- I am no longer a stick. I am juicy and there is just no trading that in… I like myself like this!
- I am too tall apparently in high heels or the general population of men is shrinking because I now tower them in heels-awkward.
I still go through the trial and error process of finding the right high heel shoe; one that won’t pinch my pinky toe, or rub my heel the wrong way, or hurt my arch… blah, blah, blah… but the honest truth is that high heels are damn sexy and until they make a sexy orthopedic shoe… we’ll all be crippled together!

This was meant to be funny and to make you all laugh… don’t take the fashion suggestions in this one too seriously! Stay in the light sisters!

Clothing Swaps can be an awesome venture into someone else’s closet FOR FREE!!! We have community swaps around here and it always feels so good for so many reasons!
1- We get to clear the clutter and make room for more. Out with the old and in with the new. In the case of a clothing swap old can mean more than just the age of an item. It can mean your old weight, your old style, your old job, your old vision of yourself. Let it go!
2-We get to help ourselves to new things without paying for them… woohooo! Free shopping! Who wouldn’t want to shop for free? Let me tell you, I have found some pretty amazing pieces at clothing swaps. There tend to be clothes with TAGS STILL ON THEM!!! I once found a vintage Tiffany & Company Clutch- What a find!
3-We get to help those less fortunate than ourselves in the end because all the leftover clothes usually go to a pre-arranged organization that caters to people in need. Women who are trying to get jobs, but can’t afford an interview suit, mothers whose children need clothes, people who need jackets for the winter and they don’t pay a dime for them! That’s better than a thrift store!
The next one that is going on in this area is at Twice as Nice Consignment in Dunedin.

Things are rarely what they seem on the surface. I think this is true of people and the fashion that we wear. I know for me my fashion for the day can’t be forced and it is very much an indication of my mood-whether I really want to admit that or not. I’d like to blame it on the laundry or the sizes I can fit into that day, but more than not it’s really my mood. The colors I wear, the fit of the clothes, the jewelry I select, the shoes I wear-everything. I used to choose outfits that went together nicely and that I knew looked good on me when I was feeling “happy and thin” and then store them in the closet for a day when I wasn’t really feeling my best so that my mind didn’t get to be the boss that day. The mind is a tricky little creature and it tells lies based on nonsense some days. Working in a retail business that caters to women I know this to be true of women who are a size 2 and women who are a size 20-it doesn’t matter the size. I think the body of a woman lies in her mind and her perceptions of herself. We’ve all seen the thin woman who stands with her arms crossed over her flat stomach as if she is guarding herself, and the heavier woman who is just plain sexy because she carries herself with a confidence, an openness-no hiding or guarding body language. Different bodies. Different messages.
Finding the right attire for our bodies, our own personal style, the season, and the state of mind is worth it’s weight in gold. When I feel good in something-I look good in it and it shows. The confidence level is high, the posture is different, the walk is different, I am different-vibrant if you will. I tend to radiate this energy outwardly and I feel good! It’s a projection of how I feel on the inside and it will carry over to my presentation, to my interaction with other people, to my body language and my voice.
There is a strength in finding your inner beauty and bringing it to the surface. Give yourself permission to be beautiful and sexy. It doesn’t take away from how smart you are or how seriously people take you. I believe that we are all beautiful-sometimes we just need a little polishing-just like a diamond!

Our event, “You are what you wear”-a journey to finding your authentic style went very well. We had a diverse group of women in attendance; all shapes and sizes, & all ages. We had a model without the “perfect” size 2 body (who made that rule up anyway?), and she was gracious enough to let us dress her in clothes that hid her problem area. Every woman (no matter how fit) thinks she has one believe it or not. The idea is to dress to cover it and enhance the rest so that we feel at ease and beautiful in one elegant brush stroke. Once the ice was broken it was kind of a healing type of event. These women became less afraid to speak openly about what areas they needed to hide and which ones they found flattering about themselves. This is an awesome exercise by the way! Because the reality is that we women have created the false images of what we need to look like amongst each other. Once that judgment gets striped away we share openly and some healing occurs. As a general rule we don’t find that men seem to care what we wear as much as we do. Don’t get us wrong! They find the end result beautiful, and they might really love a great figure or sexy dress, but they don’t care that the dress looked better because you wore an A line style to hide or slim down your hips.
Fashion Tips:
There are many items on the front line of fashion for the fall season and some are modified repeats-which is usually the case. In looking at new season fashions you need to understand that adding a piece or two to your already existing wardrobe can change your look. You don’t have to revamp your wardrobe entirely to be “in style”. And, who wants to do that anyway? You lose some of your own style which is a depiction of your personality.
One shoulder shirts and dresses are everywhere, but this is going to require you to get a good bra. Nothing worse than seeing an awesome top and “the girls” look like they are screaming for salvation. Get fitted for a bra by a bra expert-this will take you a long way! It’s like getting an eye exam and finally seeing the right way. VS is not always the best bra for every girl. “The girls” peeking out from under your arms in a tube top says old and we are NOT old just more pliable.
Jeans-these are a tricky item. Skinny jeans are still here, but they are not for everyone’s body style and they can make even the nicest curved woman look fat. Find the jeans that work best for your body style.
There are many more tips too, but we don’t want to hold you hostage! We like your visits and we don’t want it to feel like visiting your crotchety old Grandma-we want you to come back often without us begging.
Check out the discussion boards for the entire piece: http://bit.ly/dkDcc
Guess what? We have another adventure planned and it entails tour buses and shopping… We just know you are going to LOVE it!

Okay, Okay …so you want to know about the disco & boas shopping extravaganza? Well, as resale boutique owners and stylists for a small clientele it requires shopping. We prefer thrift because it’s like a treasure hunt and when you’re good at it (like we are) the deals are beyond amazing! It’s also quite a fulfilling feeling to discover a $1200 gem selling for $5! However, it can be quite tedious to go through racks, and racks, and racks of clothing while standing side by side a slower shopper so, we opted for an evening outing.
This particular night the chosen thrift store was playing a groovy music compilation of the best (in our opinion) 70’s disco music. Real hip-swinging type music. The kind that makes want to belt out the lyrics even when you know you can’t sing! Anyway, through the quick slinging of rack after rack of clothing my cohort belted out, “BREAK!” And, as if we had planned this silliness we both broke into a dance to the music right there in the middle of the aisle. We each have our own style and neither one of us looked like Elaine from Seinfeld, so we were golden! Then, as quickly as it began it stopped and we were back to hunting. This went on a few more times through our 2 hour spree, but the last time we happened to be standing near a rack of boas and what looked like metallic disco hats-that’s all it took! Now, with our full disco garb “Break!” echoed through the air and the dancing commenced. Full on Travolta and Saturday Night Live arm swinging and all. Our laughter ran so deep we were literally crying and about to wet our pants. We had to stop…
I wonder what the other shoppers thought of our public display of joyful shopping? hee hee hee…What a groovy shopping night! All that and now we are ready for our event, “You are what you wear” a journey into finding your own authentic style. We’ll report back with how it went, but I suspect it is going to be like hanging out with your funny, fashionable girlfriends who show you what to wear-AWESOME!
We found some tips on how to shops resale that we love and wanted to share with you!

Well, here we go again! We had some info on here and it ran away-off to London no less… maybe that’s a hint? Either way, we are here to start again and take you all on a journey into the life and times of a resale boutique owner, creators, mad marketing diva, and artists of recreated fashion. Won’t that be fun?
We will try to take you all through the journey of various designs from start to finish as well as our own personal journey through the transition process that we feel happening as we speak. Life always presents new avenues to take or turn from and it can be wickedly exciting, adventurous, and very funny!
Check back with us soon for last night’s adventure to the thrift store. We were hunting for the perfect pants for our model in the “You are What you Wear” event… that was a trip-disco & boa’s were involved… that’s all I can say!
